MCG Career College's Red Deer campus celebrated the opening of its expanded Healthcare Training Centre on March 1, 2025 — a $1.2 million investment that doubles the facility's clinical simulation capacity and brings the campus to parity with MCG's flagship Calgary location.

The new wing includes four dedicated clinical simulation bays, a fully equipped medical office reception suite, a new ultrasound lab with two Mindray diagnostic units, and an expanded student lounge and study centre. The expansion was made possible through a combination of reinvested program revenue and the Alberta Private Colleges Capital Grant program.

Built Around How Students Actually Learn

The design philosophy behind the new centre prioritizes hands-on practice over passive instruction. Every simulation bay is equipped to replicate real clinical environments — from patient intake workflows in the MOA suite to full abdominal and OB/GYN scanning protocols in the ultrasound lab.

"We wanted Red Deer students to walk into a facility that feels like a real clinic from day one. That confidence translates directly into performance during placements."
— Campus Director, MCG Red Deer

What's New in the Expanded Wing

Growing Demand in Central Alberta

Red Deer and central Alberta face a significant healthcare staffing gap — one that MCG is positioned to help address. With the new facility, the campus can accept larger MOA and DMS cohorts beginning with the Fall 2025 intake, increasing annual graduate output by an estimated 35%.
