NIMT evolves into
MCG Career College
Expanding our campuses and programming to offer more options for students to succeed.
Since 2005, the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy (NIMT) has been the premier massage therapy training institution in Western Canada. Offering both Basic Relaxation and Advanced Therapeutic Massage programs, graduates from both programs earn 2280 combined hours of instruction, qualifying for the Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) designation.
NIMT was different from other colleges and offered many benefits for students, including:
- Qualifying to become a Registered Massage Therapist in less than two years.
- Offering a flexible program structure that allowed students to continue working or raising their families.
- Joining a community with fellow students and faculty with small classroom sizes.
- Providing hands-on training with real clients at the student clinic.
- A unique training experience with instructors who are active practitioners with extensive experience .
- Being on the cutting-edge of massage therapy theory and training with a relevant, up-to-date curriculum.
Another value-add that set students up for success was NIMT’s proprietary rights to teach and certify students in the Lensen™ Technique, which combines elements of osteopathy with massage therapy. As one of the only institutions in Alberta to offer this training, in addition to receiving their Advanced Therapeutic Massage program diploma, graduates also receive a Certified Lensen™ Therapist certificate.
Over time, it became clear: our philosophy and approach to training was so successful, that students wanted more. NIMT began exploring health and wellness training options outside of massage therapy that would fit into our family of programs, and bring the most value to students and the community. As we began evolving beyond massage therapy programming, it was only fitting to update the brand and name!
Introducing MCG Career College
In August 2019, the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy became MCG Career College!
MCG Career College will be more than a technical training institution; it will be a gathering place for a community of innovators in health and wellness training. By providing relevant education, top instruction and flexible programming that fits your life, MCG will empower students with the confidence and skills they need to become leaders and business owners in our community.

In addition to our Basic and Advanced massage therapy programs, MCG Career College offers Medical Office Assistant and Unit Clerk. In the future, the following programs will added: Basic Life Support (CPR), Standard First Aid, Advanced First Aid, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Medical First Responder (MFR).
We want our alumni, faculty, students and all our neighbours in the community to know that MCG Career College lives our core values and that we continuously innovate our curriculum to offer a unique education experience that sets students up for success. We are stronger when we lift each other up!
