MCG massage students in-demand

Life may be feeling a bit upside down these days with the Coronavirus pandemic impacting every aspect of our lives— from work to school and everything in between. But students at MCG’s Red Deer campus got a glimpse of normalcy last month with the official graduation ceremony for the Advanced Massage Therapy students.

Nine students participated in a safe, socially distanced ceremony on June 19 at the Red Deer campus, receiving their diplomas from the Dean of MCG Career College, Carmen Sheridan. On top of that, every single student is working full time, many as RMTs at various spas and clinics located around the province.

Staying motivated during a summer program

Going to school in the summer can be a great way to get ahead of the game. When everyone else is just starting classes in September, your program is coming to an end and you’re ready to start job hunting! But let’s face it — when the weather is nice, it can be hard to stay motivated.
“The key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles.??? (Unknown)
So, with our focus clearly set on our goals, let’s make a plan for how you’re going to slay your summer courses and still enjoy the short BBQ season.

In-person classes resume at MCG Career College

Personal connections and a face-to-face learning environment are what truly elevates the post-secondary experience. It can improve your learning experience, result in lifelong friendships and enhance your mental wellness.

At MCG, we pride ourselves on a flexible learning environment with a balance of online learning and in-person classes to allow our students to better connect with their fellow students and instructors. While MCG has been operating 100 per cent in the virtual world during the pandemic, we are excited to officially reopen for on-campus learning this summer and for the fall semester.

Soft skills training vital in healthcare

There is more to a successful career in healthcare than your skills training and clinical abilities. While the hands-on skills education is vital, so is the way that you communicate with patients and colleagues. Empathy, compassion, and professionalism are all soft skills that can really elevate your resume and help you stand up above the rest when it comes to the job hunt.

“We see people in their worst and most vulnerable states,??? explains Carmen Sheridan, Dean of MCG Career College. Therefore, students training at MCG to be Medical Office Assistants and Unit Clerks spend a portion of time learning appropriate “bedside manners??? and how to keep patients feeling safe and comfortable.

Online education isn’t solo learning

We all have different learning styles and some of us need more direction and guidance than others. It’s one reason many people shy away from online education programs — because they are worried they’ll be handed a stack of assignments with a due date at the end of the semester and a cheery, “off you go!???

In this new COVID-19 world, MCG Career College is still running programs where available but it’s not a simple flip to a digital environment.
