Learn Proper Assessment And Correction Techniques Used Specifically For Therapeutic Applications.

Advanced Therapeutic Massage Diploma

Overview

The Advanced Massage Diploma: Clinical Assessment and Correction Specialization is designed for students to provide therapeutic (corrective) treatments for their clients. At MCG Career College, we believe that this area of training has been substandard in the industry for many years and results in graduates that use relaxation techniques for therapeutic treatments.

This second year course teaches proper assessment and correction techniques, used specifically for therapeutic applications. All concepts taught in the first year Basic Relaxation Massage diploma are reinforced and expanded upon, but the emphasis is now on assessment and corrective techniques for acute and chronic pain found in the soft tissues and associated structures of the body.

This diploma is 1288 hours and takes place over 10 months. It follows the same format and requirements as the Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma over a longer time period.

Completion of both the Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma and the Advanced Therapeutic Massage Diploma will provide the graduate with 2296 hours of instruction.

Diploma structure

Like the Basic Relaxation Massage Diploma, the Advanced Therapeutic Massage Diploma is a blend of distance and classroom learning, with a hands-on, practical component. In between the once-a-month classroom sessions, students must complete home study assignments, correspondence work and practical work experience.

Classroom instruction: Students must attend 10, 2 day classroom sessions spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. Each day is divided into 2 classes: ½ day of academic instruction and ½ day of massage treatments. At the start of every weekend of classroom instruction (with the exception of the first class), students must write an examination consisting of the material taught in the previous month including all assigned home study for that month. If the student does not complete the materials as assigned they will be unable to successfully complete the exam. Classes take place on both Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Home study assignments: These are assigned at the end of each weekend of classroom instruction to be completed prior to the next class. They provide reinforcement and expansion of the concepts presented in class.

Correspondence lessons: These are supplied at the end of each weekend of classroom instruction. The student is required to complete and submit the correspondence lesson at the next scheduled class. These lessons provide the student with the ability to improve their critical thinking and reading skills, and to prepare them for the independent nature and business of massage therapy.

Practical work experience: Students must obtain the required hours of supervised work experience within a specific time frame.
